More savings tips from Ovation Images brides and grooms…
4. DJ or Band Tip: If you book through an agency or service, they will have a rate schedule and they will stick to it. Instead, locate your desired DJ or band on the web and contact them directly. If they have your date open, ask for a discount. The DJ or band leader is often empowered to give discounts that the booking agency cannot or will not give.
5. Limo Tip: (Sit Down Before Reading This One!!) Call a funeral home! Funeral homes have limos sitting around unused on many Saturdays and they hire them out at rates that a limo service cannot match. It may take some nerve to call. But it could save you hundreds of dollars on your limo.
6. Wedding Bands: This should be obvious. Don’t let a jeweler sell you on 24 karat gold or premium platinum. Get 14K gold wedding bands or go for one of the new gorgeous modern metals available like tungsten or cobalt, they hold their shine virtually forever and save you money.

Now that you have put unique twist on your table numbers, you need to think about place cards! Place cards can be done in so many fun ways, and  here are a few of our favorites…

  • Leave a polaroid camera on the same table with the place cards. When your guest take their place card have them replace it with a photo of themselves! This will get everyone laughing and the party will start immediately. Plus, you will have a photo of every guest at your wedding! To make sure everyone can see the pictures, display the place cards and photos using a clothesline.
  • If you are short on table space use a clothes line, pin board, or magnetic board to display the cards in a vertical manner.
  • Use a glass rim place card: Have your place cards cut into a shape, such as a hummingbird, and place it on the edge of a wine glass. Guests will be able to find their place and be ready for a drink as well!
  • If your favors come in a box, write your guests name and table number on the box and have it double as your place cards!
  • Match your place cards to your theme. Having a beach wedding? Use shells or small drink umbrellas to dress up your place cards. A travel theme? Make the place cards look like boarding passes or passports. Going green? Give each guest a potted plant with their name and seat number on the pot.

Ovation Images Wedding Tip #85:

Have someone drive the route during the week before your wedding to look for traffic delays so those can be factored into your schedule and alternate routes planned. Be alert to the fact that roads and bridges that may be open on weekdays might be closed for road work on Saturdays.  At Ovation Images, Pittsburgh Wedding Photographers, we take no chances; we always drive the entire route before your wedding.

It is a new year and with the new year comes resolutions. While we here at Ovation Images plan on continuing our resolution to take the best wedding photos in Pittsburgh, we know many brides have made a resolution to look their best on their wedding day, and with tips from Ovation Images, it is easy!

  • Eating well should be at the top of your to do list. You want to look and feel your best for your wedding and eating well is the best place to start!
  • Don’t tan or apply any tanning lotion within two weeks of your wedding day. If you burn or overdo accidentally, we have no way to fix that in your pictures. Also, most gowns will show strap lines and other lines from tanning. Two weeks allows time for those lines to fade.
  • Don’t use any glitter. It reflects light in distracting sparkles that are impossible to tell from tiny beads of shiny sweat. Glitter sparkles just have to be removed from your photographs, often at additional cost.
